Copycat Sonic Ultimate Meat and Cheese Burrito Recipe

This copycat Sonic Ultimate Meat & Cheese Burrito recipe comes as close to the drive-thru original as possible. Don't forget to throw in an extra side of tots!

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post for Diet-to-Go the content and opinions expressed are my own.

Many of you know how much I love Sonic's Route 44 Diet Coke with vanilla and extra ice, but I'm not sure you're aware of how much I love other things on the menu. Their tater tots are to die for, the mozzarella sticks are a steal on Saturdays at just $1.09 (locally) and the Ultimate Meat & Cheese Burrito will fulfill your daily caloric intake.

Because it's one of Madison's and my favorite menu items, it wasn't long before we threw together this copycat Sonic Ultimate Meat and Cheese Burrito recipe.

The only thing we couldn't quite figure out was recipe for the zesty cheese sauce Sonic uses. I searched high and low for some sort of insight but couldn't find one.

I bet you could try a nacho cheese sauce and come really close. We didn't have any on hand so we went with the cheese sauce featured in Oh Sweet Basil's Arby's Beef n Cheddar recipe.

We don't eat these copycat Ultimate Meat and Cheese Burritos very often for Waffle Wednesday (aka "brinner"). They're (obviously) not the healthiest breakfast-for-dinner choice, but I do believe in the occasional indulgence. and these babies are indulgent. Fortunately they're easy to make, though I'll warn you now. You will dirty a few pans.

But these breakfast burritos are so worth it.

When we have something this heavy for dinner, we always throw in a green smoothie to round out the meal. My favorite is the island green smoothie I featured in April.

There's just something about pineapple that makes me super happy.

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with pineapple reminding me of Hawaii and Hawaii reminding me of how great it is to vacation without the kids.

Re: recipe for 308 subsonic loads?

I personally use 10.5 Grains of Trail Boss at that keeps me just under the 1050FPS mark. I shoot 180 GR Hornady Spiral Points. never tried them on a deer so not sure how they would work.

Re: recipe for 308 subsonic loads?

First, no matter what data you use, you will need a chronograph. Each rifle and load is a bit different. Ideally you want between 1000 and 1100 fps. Faster than 1100 fps and you risk a sonic boom especially in colder temperatures. Lowers speeds give less power, higher trajectories and the potential for increased yawing which can be hazardous to your silencer if you are using one.

I use WC820, it is like H110 and entirely safe to use in reduced loads in rifles. H110, V110, 4227 and any other magnum pistol powder is good for subsonic rifle loads. Start with about 15 grains in a 308 case and a 220 grain bullet.

Ensure your twist is right. 1-10 is good for round noise 220 grain bullets, but they will keyhole with a 1-12 twist. 180 grains work well with a 1-12 twist.

Magnum primers give more consistent ignition and lower standard deviations. It has been my experience that you can expect your groups to average 1.5 to 2 times larger with subsonic ammo in a gun intended for supersonic ammo.

Past 200 yards a subsonic bullet is moving downhill very quickly. With a 200 yard zero, you will still be at least a foot high at 100 yards. You need to know the range to the target very well in order to ensure correct shot placement.

Edited to add I forgot about using Bulleye. It works great for jacketed bullets. I have found that using Bullseye for cast 44 mag subsonic resulted in leading in the bore. For 223 and 308 it is nice. Thanks normbal.

Sonic Drive-In Sonic Burger

Driving through Louisiana in 1953, Troy Smith discovered a hamburger stand that had installed an intercom system to speed up ordering. Troy thought the idea of ordering food from parked cars would be perfect for his Top Hat Restaurant in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He borrowed a bunch of cars from a friend who owned a used car lot and parked the cars in a row as a guide to form stalls around his restaurant. He wired an intercom system to the stalls and renamed his drive-in "Sonic" with the slogan "Service with the Speed of Sound." The new concept was a smash, and revenues for the redesigned hotdog and hamburger stand doubled during the first week. There are no secret ingredients in this clone of Sonic's Drive-In Sonic Burger recipe, just common hamburger components. The secret is how you stack the ingredients that make this Sonic Drive-In Sonic Burger taste like the real thing.

Get This

_main
  • 1/4 pound ground beef
  • 1 large plain white hamburger bun
  • butter-flavored spray or melted butter
  • Salt
  • Ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons mayonnaise
  • 3 dill pickle slices (hamburger slices)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped white onion
  • 1/3 cup chopped iceberg lettuce
  • 2 tomato slices

1. Shape the ground beef into a patty with approximately the same diameter as the bun. Cover the patty with wax paper and freeze it.

2. When you're ready to prepare the burger, preheat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat.

3. Spray some butter spray or spread a thin layer of melted butter on the top and bottom bun halves. Lightly brown the bun in the skillet or on the griddle, then set it aside.

4. Cook the beef patty in the hot pan, and lightly season it with salt and pepper. Cook the beef for 3 to 4 minutes per side, until done.

5. As the patty cooks, build the burger by first spreading the mayonnaise over the browned face of the bottom bun.

6. Arrange the pickle slices on the mayonnaise.

7. Sprinkle the chopped onion over the pickles.

8. Arrange the lettuce on the onion.

9. Stack the tomato slices on the lettuce.

10. When the beef is ready, stack it on the lettuce, and top off the sandwich with the top bun. If you'd like the bun warmer, microwave the burger on high for 10 to 15 seconds.

Sonic Ocean Water Ingredients:

  • 4 Tablespoons of regular white sugar
  • 4 Tablespoons of water
  • 24 oz of lemon-lime soda (2 – 12 oz cans works great!)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of coconut extract
  • 3 drops of blue food coloring

How to Make Sonic Ocean Water | Sonic Ocean Water Copycat Recipe

Mix sugar and water until it dissolves

In a microwave safe bowl, mix white sugar and water and heat for 30 seconds in the microwave. This should dissolve most of the sugar.

Add the sugar mixture to the lemon-lime soda and coconut extract

Add blue food coloring to your liking

Pour it over some ice and you’ve got yourself the best dang drink ever. A close competitor with Sonic’s Cherry Limeade which you can also make at home with my recipe, thankyouverymuch.

Frito Pie on Sonic's secret menu is a generous serving of Frito chips covered with chili and nacho cheese. Keep in mind that not all Sonic locations serve this menu item, but it doesn't hurt to ask just in case.

Grilled cheese sandwiches are magical, but when you add ham into the mix, that changes everything. Sonic serves Grilled Ham & Cheese Sandwiches, which is a twist on a classic. Filled with melted cheese and ham, there's no going back to a plain ol' grilled cheese sandwich.
